United States Senate and House Republicans have begun taking steps to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in advance of President-Elect Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2017. The Senate held a special session (coined “vote-a-rama”) on Thursday, January 12, 2017, in which senators approved a blueprint for the budget that would take out several key components of the law. House Republicans approved this measure on Friday, January 13, 2017.
Clear plans for the replacement of the ACA have not been announced, though some are projecting April as the date to watch for new healthcare legislation. However, thousands have already protested these measures across the country, and the looming repeal has been met with staunch criticism from the Democratic Party.
